The ‘Shelby Series’ Returns With New 800HP Shelby American Series 2

Shelby American announced the creation and sale of a new Shelby Series 2 car at the Shelby LA facility on May 17. The Series 2 comes powered by Ford with over 800 hp and is an update on the original 1999 Shelby Series 1 created by Carroll Shelby. The Series 1 was the manifestation of his desire to build a car that was “pure Shelby” rather then work off a chassis or design in partnership with other automakers.

Since most American automakers offer only a small fraction of their vehicles in Europe, it’s not surprising that the U.S.-based brands skipped the 2018 Paris Motor Show. But surprisingly enough, Shelby American came to France to showcase its latest products, including the new-old Series 2 sports car.

Shelby Series 2 surprises in Paris
Shelby is officially back with an updated version of its in-house sports car. The Shelby Series 2 made a surprise visit this week to the 2018 Paris auto show, which provided the first real look at the revised roadster.
The trick is that the car isn't actually new. It's the same body, and the chassis is constructed from left over Series 1 parts. However, Shelby has dropped nearly 350 pounds to enhance the overall performance of the car. That means billet aluminum pieces and carbon fiber have been integrated into the car, and the result is a Series 2 that's over 12 percent lighter than the Series 1.

American automakers largely skipped the Paris Motor Show, but Shelby American didn’t get the memo as this year marked their first appearance at the event.
While the company brought an assortment of different vehicles to Paris, including the Super Snake and Baja Raptor, the real star was the Shelby Series 2.
Announced back in May, the Series 2 picks up where the Series 1 left off 19 years ago. Since so much time has passed, the model has been extensively updated despite the fact that its rides on an original aluminum monocoque chassis. This was made possible due to a unique partnership with Wingard Motorsports which bought the remaining Series 1 components from Shelby several years ago.

SHELBY SERIES 2 STUNS IN PARIS
The Shelby Series 1 hit the streets in 1999, with 249 units built. However, what was intended to be the start of a new sports car line from Shelby was quickly canned due to financial constraints. Now though, nearly two decades later, it’s back as the limited edition Series 2.
Shelby American partnered with Wingard Motorsports to hunt down the remaining Series 1 chassis and parts a few years back and has worked to drop nearly 160kg from the car. Those interested in one can choose between billet aluminium, carbon fibre, or one even a titanium car body.

Amateurs de grosses cylindrées américaines, sachez que Shelby est présent pour la première fois au Mondial de Paris avec son propre stand. Le préparateur y expose ses Ford Mustang et autres F-150 Raptor musclées et la Series 2, véhicule entièrement conçu en interne, est également visible.
Annoncée au mois de mai dernier, cette évolution de la Series 1 de 1999 se veut plus légère et encore plus musclée que celle-ci. Extérieurement, elle se montre quasi-identique à sa devancière.

Carroll Shelby se musí na obláčku tetelit blahem. Jeho roadster Series 1 z konce devadesátých let dostal nástupce, který společnost Shelby American nyní vystavuje na pařížském autosalonu.
Pokud hledáte pádný důkaz toho, jak moc se automobilový svět poslední dobou změnil, asi nejlepším příkladem jsou poslední autosalony včetně toho pařížského. Právě město nad Seinou je aktuálně ignorováno docela vysokým.

Parliamo della Shelby Series 2, la vettura di cui si parlava questa primavera che va a sostituire la Series 1 ormai quasi ventenne. Al primo impatto sembra una copia della sorella, ma in realtà la vettura è stata ampiamente modificata da Wingard Motorsports, che ha acquistato gli ultimi componenti anni fa.

E a marca trouxe consigo à capital gaulesa o novo desportivo que revelou em maio, o Shelby Series 2, herdeiro do Series 1 nascido em 1999.
